It is through that acid reflux affects both men and women alike and there is really no significant difference between acid reflux symptoms in women and those in men. Even though this is the case, acid reflux is usually a cause for alarm most especially in pregnant women.

acid reflux symptoms

Women usually have a characteristic heartburn during gestation. The reason for this is not hard to find. During pregnancy, the woman is usually more prone to acid reflux than any other man or woman and this may even contribute to the reason that there is so much talk about acid reflux symptoms in women.

You see, during pregnancy, there is increase pressure on the GIT because of the increasing size of the uterus. The increasing size of the uterus which is as a result of the growing foetus puts pressure on the organs before the diaphragm. This causes easy satiety but it also causes pregnant women to be more prone to acid reflux. The pressure from the uterus makes it difficult for the stomach to expand to its full length and this will mean that stomach content can easily flow back (reflux) to the oesophagus. This is known as acid reflux and causes the characteristic heartburn.

So without controversy, heartburn can be considered as one of the acid reflux symptoms in women. Other symptoms of acid reflux like anorexia and headache may also be seen. But even though there are a lot of natural remedies that women can use for their acid reflux, they are advised to also see their doctor; because a pregnant woman needs all the extra care and attention.
